February meeting notes
The dry stream beds which were dug out and restored last year are now completely covered in silt, and trenches were dug through tulip beds planted last year which may leave lines through the beds.
Despite these challenges, there had been a lot of developments to features in the park, and hopefully we can get it cleaned up and ready for April’s event. They’ve already raised more in sponsorships this year than they made from the entire Tulips at Twilight event last year that a record will be set. Hopefully we’ll get some warm days we can send out a call, so the ponds and streambeds look their best when the spotlight is on us. Tulips at Twilight/Friends of Ward-Meade will also have a booth at the Kansas Garden Show- they’ll be showing off one of their new features, a giant mushroom made from a satellite dish. It was originally a ten-foot dish that was cut down to seven feet around. It was sprayed with foam and painted across the top and base, and then the underside is a pleated fabric.
