Lee Schick, previously a Horticulturist with the City of Topeka Parks and Recreation Department will again head up the TAWGS display at the Kansas Garden Show. The theme for this years show is "Over the Beanstalk".
Our booth well have a pond with waterfall, about 12'. We will have Jack and Jill, The 3 Little Pigs and Humpty Dumpty, plus lots of color from the flowers that have been ordered. No dirt this year but lots of mulch and mulch bags for height around the display. Also trees and yews will be placed in the booth.
We will be needing members to help with the building of the booth and greeting and talking water gardens with the public that comes to the show. We will start in earnest on Tuesday and work thru Thursday to get ready for another great Kansas Garden Show. If you're able to help scheduling for members to work in the booth, please contact Don Taliaferro.
A lot of hard work turned the northeast side of Exhibtion Hall at the Kansas Expocentre into a beautiful walk-through garden for the 2012 Kansas Garden Show.
Three water features, blooming trees, evergreens, grasses, rocks and flowers filled the area. A small area even had rocking chairs on a patio. The display seemed to attract a lot of admirers and good comments.
Lee Schick, a city parks employee, chaired the project. The "garden display realization crews" included TAWGS members Kent Hampton, Don Regier, Bob & Cheryl Saathoff, Mark Weaver, Phil & Amy Thompson, Hi Stockwell, Michael Bradley, Bill Clark, Duane Eberhardt, Ray Schroeder, Jim Mowder, Tom & Helen Platis, Floyd Gruver and Don Taliaferro, along with Topeka Beautification Association members Dave Headstrom, Jerold Binkley and Jim Herynk.
Volunteers that worked during the show included: Don Taliaferro, Hi Stockwell & Michael Bradley, Floyd & Diane Gruver, Bill & Susan Kraus, Jim Green, Dona Peterson, Don & Sandy Regier, Jim & Sue Mowder, Amy & Phil Thompson and Linda Reynolds.
Suppliers that contributed materials were: Capitol Concrete, Wild Bird House, Kansas Fence, Patio, Pool and Fireside, Waterscapes Concepts, Skinner Garden Center, Jackson's Greenhouse, White Star Machinery and Supply Company.
Many thanks to everyone that contributed to making the beautiful display for the garden show. I hope we haven't left anyone out. If I have, we apologize for the omission.
